So, now you're done - following this tutorial, you should have a basic nation page set up now, complete with an infobox and some other things you may have learned while on the learning curve. Now, this page may randomly update as more things that need an explanation come up to me, so if you need help with something that isn't on here, feel free to contact me and I'll do my best to help.

In any way, I hope you enjoy using this site to add another layer of immersion and worldbuilding to your nation on Valsora. I certainly know I do, and I hope to you here as well, friend.

A fair warning before I begin.

This tutorial was made with a desktop operating Windows 10, so therefore the advice and the tutorial I am making here will only strictly apply to those with a Windows 10 PC. If you use another type of computer, such as a MacBook, or God forbid a phone to use MediaWiki with, then you're kinda out of luck, so sorry. You're just going to have to work off what I can give you here based on my knowledge and my hardware, and apply it to yours.

Hello there, fellow Valsoran! If you have found this page, this means that you are in need of help, because you have absolutely no idea as to how to use this strange new website. Worry not, because you have come to the right place!

This quick guide will walk you through the basics of creating a nation page using Miraheze's wiki editor, such as how to upload images to the site and how to make an infobox, like the ones you see on Wikipedia. It will also show you some handy little tricks you can use to make your page look just ever more better to look at.

Now, let's get started, shall we?

How do I actually make the page?

On the left side of the page is a little link labelled Create Nation Wiki. This page, when opened, will take you to this page:

This page is the place where all the magic starts. It's quite simple to make a page, actually - all you have to do is type your nation's name into the box, and then hit the Create Page button, as demonstrated below:

Now, once you create the page, you will be taken to a screen that looks a bit like this:

And so here begins the magic.

OK, cool, so I have the page now... What do I do?

Simple! Just start typing! Using this editor is somewhat like using a word processor like Word - for some quick basics, Ctrl+B (or your computer's equivalent) will bold text, Ctrl+I will italicize your text and Ctrl+U will underline your text. That's all you really need to know to get started.

Now, how about those fancy headings you can see in this article? How am I doing this? How do you get these? What black magic fuckery is going on here to cause this to happen?

To get headings like this, all you have to do is select the dropdown box at the top that should be currently labelled as Paragraph. If you can't find it, here's a helpful guide to its location on the editor's control panel.

Selecting the box will show a menu of the different heading styles you can choose from. Using this, you can get those

fancy little headings

and spruce up your page with just a little more pazzazz. Hell, you could even

do this

and make your page's text look like one of those dossiers that appear in a James Bond film.

But now for the real shit... how do I make an infobox?

So, this one's a little hard, but worry not, because I'm here to help.

If you have no idea what an infobox is, it's basically that little panel a Wikipedia article usually has on the side of the page. It usually looks a little like this:

So, how do you make one? Well, let me show you.

But first, a word from our sponsors:

I'mma be real with you chief, I only put this here to get around the weird-as-shit formatting you'd have to deal with if I didn't put this silly little goober here to begin with, so deal with it, alright?

‎ ‎To make an infobox, navigate to the + sign on the control panel and show the drop-down menu.

Once you see this, select Template and it will show you this menu:

Search for Infobox country to generate the template, and once done you should see this:

Now you're here, just fill out the boxes with your information. If you need help, the examples provided in the template can guide you, otherwise here's a few behind-the-scenes shots of my infobox to help get you started with a general idea on how to use this template to begin with:

Now, you may notice that to link a flag, you have to type in something like nwm.png, as demonstrated above. So, how do you upload images to this site?

Mini-Tutorial: Uploading Images to ValsoraWiki

To begin, open the + symbol.

Select Images and Media.

Once you see this screen, go to Upload and follow the prompts from there to put it onto the site.

Now, unless you're also planning to put it onto your page, leave this screen because this isn't needed for the next part.

Now that the image is uploaded, to link it into your infobox simply input the file's name into the Flag box - for example, to link my flag in, all you have to do is type nwm.png into that box. Make sure that you're using the name you gave for the file on ValsoraWiki, not the name it has on your hard-drive - while nwm.png would work, new_westmore__460053.png would not because that is not the name the site associates with the file.

I want to add my page to a Categories list, but I don't know how to...

This one is slightly more difficult, as this involves having to well, edit the page's data again. To do this, navigate to the button and pull down the drop-down menu so you can see this:

Once done, click the Categories button and simply input the name of the tag you want to apply - in this case, it would be Nations.

Then Apply Changes and you're done! Once you save the page, it will be categorized under Category:Nations and will appear there as one of the many articles you can read.

And now we're done! (or are we?)

I certainly know I do.

With love,

New Westmore
